I distinctly remember hearing “Inside of Love” from Nada Surf’s album Let Go on a snowy day in the fall of ‘06. I was sitting in my car, killing time before a class started.
The night before, my girlfriend of the time told me that she loved me. I couldn’t utter the three words back to her. I said I was sorry—she left.
Before leaving, though, she gave me a gift that she had just bought for me because she didn’t know what to do with it anymore. It was a Killian’s Red hat (go figure, if you make the connection). It was too small and gave me a headache. I still have the hat and occasionally wear it.
